Charity of the Quarter : Hearth

Hearth is a Boston-based nonprofit organization committed to ending homelessness among older adults. Founded in 1991 by a group of seven women, Hearth was created with a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves to grow older with dignity, stability, and a place to call home.

Through a combination of permanent supportive housing, homelessness prevention, and outreach services, Hearth ensures that older adults can move through their later years with comfort, dignity, and the support they need.

In 2024, Hearth supported nearly 600 older adults. Its model focuses on pairing affordable housing with personalized care management, helping residents stay housed, connect to healthcare, and live as independently and safely as possible. With 228 supportive housing units across Greater Boston, Hearth has helped more than 3,000 older adults find a lasting place to call home.

As rents rise and the cost of living continues to rise, more and more seniors are at risk of losing their homes. Hearth’s work reminds us that housing is more than just shelter. It’s peace of mind, it’s connection, and it’s a foundation for health, hope, and community.
